Raleigh annual arts and music festival - Artsplosure had its usual eclectric selection of local and national blues artists.
Acoustic blues players - Cephas & Wiggins were great. It's a classic combination acoustic guitar and harmonica blues and it sure sounded great in the park. Phil Wiggins is an amazing harmonica player - one of the best harp performances I've heard in years. They really had the crowd going with "Big Boss Man," "Walking Blues," and "Baby What you want me to do."
The Rolling Fork Review features Bob Margolin, Big Bill Morganfield, and Pinetop Perkins all connected with Muddy Waters and playing that great Chicago blues. Bob played guitar with Muddy for a number of years and Pinetop was Muddys piano player on and off for a long time. Big Bill is Muddy's son who has just produced his first blues album with the help of Margolin. He's not Muddy but you can hear the relation.
The show began with Bob Margolin and Tad Walters (local boy on harp and bass) leading a hot electric threesome. Then Big Bill Morganfield and Bob went acoustic before the band came back for some more Muddy Waters tunes. Then came Pinetop's turn - a full afternoon of Chicago Blues - Long Live Muddy's Music!
