The Bull Durham Blues Festival held its 10th Annual show for two nights at the old Durham Blues ball field. Attendance reached record levels during near perfect weather. Saturday night's crowd was not disappointed with great performances by Keb' Mo', Koko Taylor and Blues Machine, and Bo Diddley with the Debby Hastings Band.

Closing the festival was left in the able hands of Bo Diddley with the Debby Hastings Band. Bo who was one of the founding fathers of rock and roll as well as being an able blues performer still has the voice, the rhytmn, the humor, and the spirit that made his music so recognizable. Never shy, he made sure to tell the audience that he would stick around to sign pictures of himself.

Bo played his rectangle silver guitar with various effects through classics including Bo Diddley, and Hey Bo Diddley while playing a surprising amount or reggae flavored songs. I haven't heard his recent albums so I was a little out of touch on the range of his music. Although, I was familiar with his Crackin' Up (which the Stones covered a few years ago). So it shouldn't have been that much of a surprise. He also played some straight blues with the band.

Bo was a great choice to end the festival since his rhytmns are so infectious that you can't help to get up and boogie. The audience was moving and grooving on the ballfield while Bo played into the night.

The festival had a great year, I'm sorry I missed Charles Brown, Taj Mahal, and Clarance Carter the night before. I can't wait until next year.
