Jeanne Newhall on Beduouin's Paradise brings a sensuous mood to music that will keep your heart pumping and body gently swaying. A vibrant upbeat set of tunes featuring her melodic piano in a contemporary jazz new age setting. This album is inspired by Gordon Wagner's poem "Venice" depicting the Venice Beach scene in the 1920's. Special help by guitarist Peter White and saxophonist Kirk Whalum and a rich rhythm section. This album will capture you whether you are listening, relaxing, or in light conversation. This music also wouldn't hurt a small party, or as a prelude to a romantic gathering.

Newhall has released 10 albums some on different piano styles and other including her vocals. On this album she concentrates on the music. The album opens with an upbeat number "Neptune's Beach " that sets a light mood and features a rich solo by electric guitarist Paul Jackson Jr. "Race Thru the Clouds" is another number that spins along with a nice acoustic guitar solo by Peter White. The songs are ably supported by Lenny Castro on percussion, Donnel Spencer Jr on drums, and Azilan Bazar on bass. The dramatic "Bunco Man" features Peter White on accordion and Krik Whalum on tenor sax.

The song "Lover's Circle" starts more delicate but soon becomes majestic with the piano rising a falling above the melody and sensitive fills by Paul Jackson and Lenny Castro. Jeanne is not one to throw a lot of notes, in her solos she repeats phrases and builds upon them enforcing the listener's connection all the while. However on "Tango Parlor" she breaks free and begins to rock out in a solo. I love that bass to to the tango beat. The title track is also a meaty composition with soulful solos by Kirk and Jeanne. "Fan Tan" is another favorite upbeat number while the album ends with "Bellogia" a more somber piece that begins with solo piano.

Play this music in your house, play in car when returning from work to distress, live with it - it will do you good.
