05/18 Elvin Bishop Artsplosure/Raleigh Pig Boy still has it playing the blues and playing guitar with a N'orleans accent.

Roots on Ninth May 5 from 1:00-6:00 PM in Durham. Cool John Ferguson, Captain Luke, John Dee Holeman, Cootie Stark, Drink Small, Little Pink Anderson, Abe Reid, Macavine Hayes, Carl Rutherford and Lightnin' Wells are all scheduled to perform. In addition most of these cats will be performing at All People Grill, 5700 Guess Road, Durham on Saturday evening, May 4 at 9:00 PM. As you can see, Tim Duffy's Music Maker Relief Foundation has been busy. Great guitar by Cool John Ferguson! See him Hear him.

I've been waiting for Tommy Castro to show up. And John Hiatt! BB stills plays and Buddy wows the crowd but John Hiatt told the show with a high rocking story filled set with the always inventive slide of Sonny Landbeth.

Hi Robert-- I
came across Robert's Reviews while I was trying to do some research for
a scene in a book I'm currently writing (I'm a romance/suspense writer
for Harlequin) and I wonder if you could help me out here. I have a scene
where a streetperson who's done time in prison is playing blues harmonica
on the sidewalk for money. I'm not that knowledgeable about the blues,
though I like them, and I'm trying to find a song that a person like that
would play, and also the writer of the song. (The scene, as written, goes
something like: ...raised the harmonica to her lips and a moment later
the bluesy chords of Lightnin' Hopkins (insert a song title here) rasped
through the street.) I was kind of hoping for a song whose title makes
it obvious it's a prison song, and secondly I was hoping that Hopkins wrote
one with a title like that that a harmonica player might handle, mainly
because readers of Harlequins might recognize the name of Lightnin' Hopkins
even if they wouldn't recognize any other blues player's name, but the
Hopkins part isn't vital (especially since I'm not sure what he wrote).
I know this is kind of an imposition, Robert, but I was hoping that for
you this question would be a snap <g>. I'm going nuts here since my
deadline is two weeks away (gulp). Anyway, if you do know off-hand of a
song and writer that would fit this scene, I would love to put your name
on the acknowledgements page of this book when it comes out next year,

If you are going to be in the area, you might want to try a few of the
clubs although their schedules hard to find online. Double Door is always
there and maybe Wild Magnolia. Or try the Charlotte Blues Society Web Site

us the Blues, I live in Ft. Lauderdale. Bands, come to Florida where the

dynamite blues cds released recently-"After Hours" by Bump and Logie and
"Black Coffee Blues" by Peter May. Both are great. Logie's "Grandma's Hands"
is sweet. His "Alligator Mouth" is downright salty. Bump's blues harp,
guitar, and vocals are outstanding. Peter May is too funky for words- you
gotta hear him. Logie's voice is so rich, honest, full of earthy tones,
and range that saying he is like a cross between Buddy Guy and Keb' Mo'

event in Lake Bowen, S.C. The Piedmont's former Blues Queen from the 70's/80's,
Shelia Carlisle...along with an exceptional group of players out of Charlotte,

Grub" on keyboards... formerly from the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach,

This is vein AND finger popping blues at it's best. Shelia and Rusty are
magic together with guitar licks that will bring you to your feet and vocals
that will bring you to your knees. Look for their New CD, "Live @ Freddy's"

I would suggest looking at I-77 to I-277 to Brevard St which will take
you downtown and then start looking for parking when you reach 6th street.
The crowds should be hard to miss. Have fun and let me know how the show
goes. Robert You missed a kick ass show!!! Jonny Lang was absolutely killer!
(Did I mention I love him?) Anyway, my best friend and I got really close
to the stage. After the show I hung around and actually walked away w/
a set list! (I collect those, by the way) Thanks again for your help. Kelly
